As I mentioned in an earlier blog post, I have lots of stationery. Much of it is quite a few years old. I haven't purchased new stationery in years.
I figure as this project goes on, I'll start using up all the paper I've accumulated over the years.
But, I'm not familiar with the best stationery sources anymore.
What are your favorites? Tell me where you like to buy stationery and why.

I know this is not going to sound trendy in the lest, but I've always liked Hallmark Card Shops for their variety in letter and note paper. However it is usually the tiny, tucked back in a corner shop that has the truly, "I've gotta have it" stationery. - Anna
I like Hallmark, too. I can also occasionally find cute paper or notecards at Barnes and Noble, Borders, or even Target. I don't have a shop that sells stationery exclusively in my town so I have to really hunt around.
I went into my local Hallmark recently and asked if I'd missed the stationary in my wander-through, and the 20's male clerk looked bewildered, and the 50's female clerk replied in the negative. As I walked out, I heard the male ask her, "What's stationary?" I kid you not.
I am using specialty papers. I buy them at noatinal bookstore here in the philippines
Etsy.com is my favorite place for buying stationery (mostly notecards). And I can use the "local" search there to buy from local artists. I also like museum gift shops. Sometimes there are amazing deals on closeouts.
I hate to say it but the best stationery shops I've found are in Germany. Sigh. Perhaps Austria too. I mean, they have real "paper stores", all over the place - McPaper anyone? With fountain pens and everything. I am most in love.
I have until July 1 to enjoy it all. :x Then I suppose Paper Source (http://www.paper-source.com/) or... um... a bookstore? Will have good paper selections. Look out for small, independent bookstores and stationery stores. They seem to have better stuff.
Pip, you nearly made me cry with that story! LOL.
I have absolutely NO PLACE in my tiny little town to get cool paper. The closest place I have is an hour and a half drive from me (not kidding) and that's a Barnes and Noble store which actually has a good enough selection for me. I can't afford to be choosy at this point.
Any Santa Barbarans out there? When I lived in SB I used to go over to Montecito and there was an awesome paper store there. You could get very high quality stuff like Crane's and nice papers from Germany and Italy, etc. I loved that place. Can't remember the name.
I love Etsy, too, but I'm not really a card user much. I like large papers because I typically write longer letters.
I can certainly believe that a "20 Something" didn't know what stationary was, whenever teenagers see one of my manual typewriters they are dumbfounded, they haven't any idea what they are looking at.

"Think of it as an analog printer that directly prints your thoughts."
"Oh... Wait, can it read your mind?"
"Sort of."
If the kid isn't obnoxious I then load a piece of paper and show them how it "reads my mind".
Kate's Paperie (www.katespaperie.com). They have their own line plus Craine's stationary and customization services. In general, they're just a great paper store with some unique gift wrap options and all sorts of paper related accessories. Very classy and helpful place - I find it easier to find things in the store and being able to handle the paper rather than buying online.
I've been writing letters for 22 years (since I was 7 years old!) and lately it has become impossible to find stationery that I like in the stores... So I decided to start designing my own letter sets and sell them on Etsy!

Stationery, while it can be lovely and nice, can also be pricy! I don't want to have to worry about cost when I write letters to my friends. I used to buy stuff from Walmart and the Dollar Tree, but they don't carry it any more. So, I was thrilled to find a set of stationery the other day at the stationery shop Papyrus. (Yes, they had only one type in the entire store - though in 3 colors.) It was 100 sheets/50 envies for $20. A steal!
