Yesterday's letter, I wrote to my daughter.
At first, I wondered if that would be cheating. She's only 8 years old, and she lives in the same house that I do.
But, then, I thought, no, it's not cheating. She received some good news yesterday — she was asked to be on the school's color guard, helping to raise and lower the United States flag outside the building every day. We're very proud of her for that achievement, and I wanted to let her know in a special way.
So, I wrote her a letter. A letter that I mailed to her.
She likes getting mail. Don't we all? It's so exciting to see an envelope with our name on it, sitting there in the mail box. But, we don't get much mail nowadays. We get e-mail, for which the computer voice announces "You have mail," but there's rarely a hand-addressed envelope in the mailbox.
Plus, my daughter will be able to keep this letter, maybe even put it in her scrapbook, and years later remember the honor and how proud we were of her.

Certainly not cheating...rather, it's a lovely and timeless gift to give to your daughter - she'll always treasure it!
This is a nice post. I don't think writing to someone in your household is cheating. I have journals for my kids I hope to give them on their 21st birthdays. Unfortunately, I haven't done a great job keeping up with them. I wish my mom would've written more letters to me when I was a kid!
What a cute way to tell her. It will hold a special place in her memory now.
Not cheating at all! I have a collection of letters and quotes and books I've saved for my daughter's menarche gift, they're timeless treasures.
Congratulations to her, I was a color guard all throughout middle school and fondly remember "passing the colors" upon my graduation-good stuff, be proud!
This is such a lovely gift! I love letters! I feel that it shows true feeling better becasue you can get it all out. My boyfriend of 4 1/2 years still has the "note" I wrote to him about how we should just be friends because I already had a boyfriend. I always ask him why he keeps it and he says that he likes it because it was the very first letter I wrote him :)
Oh, I love this idea of writing letters. Wish more people did it the old fashioned way. Really special to receive a handwritten note from someone:)
