Fan letter?

After the news that one of my favorite actors, Patrick Swayze, has died from pancreatic cancer, I got to thinking about celebrities.

As far as I can remember, I've never written a fan letter. Now, I won't guarantee that statement. There's a chance I could've written a fan letter when I was a young girl, but I'm sure I've never written one as an adult.

Have you written a fan letter? Do you have any fan letter tips to share? Did you get a response?

I'd like to hear what you think!

  1. Yes it was like losing a dear friend and he was one of my favorites too . I really thought he would make it , he was looking so much better too . such a shock . Nope no fan letter but I will miss Patrick swayze . I will miss how hard he and chris farley made me laugh on the chippendales skit on SNL .

  2. During a letter writing project in elementary school, each of us in class were required to write to someone famous. I can't remember why, but I chose Jim Davis, creator of Garfield. I remember receiving a signed (form?) letter with some Garfield drawings on the paper. I can't remember very well. I'll have to dig it up next time I'm at my parents' home.

  3. I'm sure I wrote a couple of fan letters when I was a kid. I remember Dana Strum (Slaughter) and Danny Vaughn (Tyketto) sent me short postcards in reply. That was probably around 20 years ago but I'm sure the cards are still around here somewhere. I've actually written 2 as an adult, even though I admit I did feel a little silly doing it! :) One I never got any response to; the other I just sent around a month ago so I'm waiting to see what happens. :)

  4. I've written to a couple of writers that I really enjoyed reading and got answers back from both. It was a big thrill!

  5. I wrote to Ron Perlman back when Beauty and the Beast (with Linda Hamilton) was in its first season. I did get a form letter back, and an "autographed" photo, both of which I tossed because I thought them tacky. I don't know what I expected... handwritten poetry in the style of Dylan Thomas perhaps. It cured me of ever writing a fan letter again.
